Digital switchover reaches five million homes

We pulled off a great event this week for Digital UK – the body overseeing the region by region switch to digital TV.  The panel included Digital UK’s Chief Executive, David Scott, along with DCMS Minister, Ed Vaizey and Age UK’s Chair, Dianne Jeffrey.  A rather nice venue it was too with views of the River Thames and the City, and a terrace, where on a sunny morning – which it was – there was plenty of networking over coffee and croissants.

Why did we do it?  We wanted to provide a progress update on the digital switchover – which has now reached five million homes - for both stakeholders and media.  We also used the event to launch Digital UK’s annual report which was designed by our sister agency Further and is fully digital - no printed version at all - interactive map, lots of video, only seven sections on the main nav bar, and each page written down to circa 250 words.

The report and press release also highlighted new research which revealed that the TV switchover has turned viewers on to new technology.  This was particularly the case for older viewers who told Digital UK that new found confidence has made them keen to try out gadgets from digital TV recorders to sat-nav.   The event and research gained some great coverage including hits in The Telegraph, The Guardian, Daily Mail, The Mirror, BBC Online and Simon Mayo’s Radio 2 Drivetime show.

Digital TV - we're different colours and we're different creeds and different people have different needs.
